You need to use the TRACK button >>> CD IMP.
You will be reminded to enable digital recording. to do this go to the Utility button >> D.In. HDD. On this screen on the left side at the bottom is button that says Dig Rec - OFF. Cursor to that and press enter. then you are reiminded to observe copyright. You agree, then you are back at the Import CD screen. Place the disc in the drive, press Read CD Info, then select the track and the destination.
The machine defaults to Dig. Rec. Off on each startup, so you have to do this for each session you want to import from a CD.
One great inconvenience of the 1600 is that it can't make a CD to archive individual tracks within Song Projects. You have to go through the transport folder to do this, so you have to link to a computer. A large oversight IMO, if you want to take the machine out of the studio and need to move things about or if you want to pass specific track on, to be uploaded by another person upon their platform.. Hard to be "portable" when you are tied to a computer for a particular function.
