You all have heard the struggles that I've encountered while trying to record Darwin's vocals.

I was wondering.. If I recorded him singing something simple - like "Row Row Row Your Boat" (maybe 30 seconds of audio) and sent it out to you guys - to see how you would polish it.

I'll use 2 condensor mics, then send out 2 different uncompressed wav files with the raw audio.. or put it into an AWExtract Format... which ever is smaller...

Who would be interested in doing full production?

EQ, Reverb, Pitch Correction, Compression, Gating... whatever it is that people do to make vocals stand out.

Then we can all post them and see who came up with the best result and discuss techniques. Because I admit it... I can't wrap my head around recording vocals.

Wow, you're only having problems with recording vocals? What hope have I got then...

I keep promising myself I will one day find the time to actually finish a complete recording and post it for comment... Just don't hold your breath!

I would love to give this a try Cinda. Would it have to be on the G? Post it when you ready, cause I'm always excited by a processing challeng.

I think using the G would be optional...

Hi Cinda,

Would you post bed tracks as well, for context?

I think using a simple childhood familiar melody - maybe something international... like this:

Frère Jacques,
Frère Jacques,
Dormez vous?
Dormez vous?
Sonnez les matines,
Sonnez les matines,
Din, din, don!
Din, din, don!

English Version:

Are you sleeping,
Are you sleeping?
Brother John?
Brother John?
Morning bells are ringing,
Morning bells are ringing,
Ding ding dong,
Ding ding dong.

No, I probably won't put a musical bed underneath.

It will probably be in the key of C. (No sharps or flats).

Feel free to put your own musical bed underneath.

Cinda,

How will we know how to effect the vocal without the musical context?

It is easy to get tracks to sound good on a stand alone basis. The tricky part is getting the puzzle pieces to fit. At least it is for me.

Okay... I think I understand...

I'll come up with a simple arrangement...
