Hi all.

Lets get this ball rolling then. I have written a simple Visual Basic program that outlines the very basics of using the MIDI-Ox Library to send messages from Windows to your MIDI devices.

I chose Visual Basic because the editor is free and the language is user friendly. I can also build a C# version for those who want it.

Step 1. Download and install MIDI-Ox from http://www.midiox.com
Step 2. Download Visual Basic Express Edition from Microsoft at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/default.aspx, install this too.
Step 3. Download the sample project from http://www.purpleroot.co.za/dsht.zip, Unzip the project and open the folder, open the sub folder called DijonStock HowTo, double click on the Project File.

At this point, Visual Basic will open. You may need to feel your way around the interface, but you want to open the form [top right] that is called MainForm. This form has one button on it already built for you. double click the button and you will be taken to the source code that make the program work.

Read through the comments [green text] that I have put in there for you, change the Status and Data bytes and run the program [Play Button on the Tool Bar]

If you have got all this right so far, the demo program as well as MIDI Ox should open up and when you click on the button, your MIDI device should make you a cup of tea... or fetch you a beer, or whatever.

If this does not work. Come back to this thread and we'll walk through it.

When you are feeling brave, you can add your own buttons to the MainForm, simply double-click them and copy and paste the code to create new MIDI messages to be sent.
