To all members,

A couple of days ago phpBB released version 2.0.22 (we are now running 2.0.21). One of the reasons they give is "security reasons" so it might have to do with bot registrations (although not very likely).

In the meantime the database has grown so large (233 Mb for a backup) I had to find another way to save a copy. It's no problem to download a regular backup (I do it almost daily), but putting it back in case I screw up is a different story. I found a way to work around this, but it is a more time consuming procedure. Therefore, when I upgrade I will have to take the forum offline for somewhat longer than you're used to. In the past I managed to upgrade in 10-20 minutes, this time it'll be about one hour (rough guess).

I also found a way to filter out more than half of the bot registrations. For that I have to look into some technical details. I'll probably be able to apply that after the upgrade, but I don't know yet when. It also depends on the release of phpBB 3 (which theoretically could be any moment - in that case I won't go modifying version 2).

As soon as I know when I'll do the upgrade, I'll post it here. I'm aiming at dec 31st latest. When the forum is offline, you will get a message when you try to access it.

Your botkilling administrator.

I'll do the upgrade tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock dutch time, that is 8 a.m. GMT. My guess is it'll take about one hour. You will get a message the forum is offline when you try to access it.

We're back.

Man, that was horrific. I was just making a backup on the server (no download, just to be able to put something back in case I screw up) when the database server collapsed. Next thing I knew, the php server went down, I could only see html pages and no php pages. The control panel for the website was not accessible... Grrrrrrr....

I kept looking for workarounds, but in fact that was useless, I had to wait until those servers were back up again. After about an hour and a half, they came back up and I could finish the procedure.

Now where's my baseball bat.

I got the PM. This is an error saying the notification email couldn't be sent.

Man I'm looking forward to moving.

I'm doing a lot of stuff at once here, but I don't think you have a notify on this thread, but probably on your PMs like I do.

All my notifications are on. Now I would like to have a modification that sends me an email when the word cheese is used. That is, if the email function of the php server works.
