What do you think of the reverb on the G? Is it good quality? Ive only ever used the presets ,mainly large hall but Im not that impressed. It always seems to sound quite murky. Ive tried adjusting the different parameters but like eq, Im not really all that sure of what Im doing, Kind of hoping to hear something good but never get the effect im looking for. Do I need to buy an external effects unit to get a nice clear reverb sound or do I just need to tweak more?

I'm no fan of Yamaha's reverb...in any of their machines which I have come in contact. Now, if I were a reverb expert, and had loads of time to dick around with it, I'm sure I could find acceptable sound, but as it is, I have a couple of out boxes I use that I'm much happier with.

I think the reverbs are pretty good. I use lexicon reverbs at work (80 and 90 - delay and reverb) and the yamaha reverbs dont leave me wanting a thing. I do like to mix the reverb low though......

What outboxes do you use?

Heres a tip with reverb. Cut the low end. makes it sound less muddy.

I've not been thrilled with the G's reverbs either, but I have had some luck getting them to sound better by mucking about a little in the edit screen. Think I EQ'd some as Paul described, as well as cutting back on the diffusion parameter or something like that. Just a few minutes screwing around in there really helped things along.

Sorry I can't help with particulars, but the point is that things can get better with some tweaking.

but can the settings be set to take place of the g setting.

I'd even say it's the other way around. Vocalists that I recorded all wanted to be recorded dry but wanted to hear reverb in the cans while singing to make it easier. Furthermore, why do people sing in the tub... because the reverb in the bathroom is the best.

another thing u can do is have the singer lean forward into a trash can that just housed a weeks worth of trash. set the mic on the bottom.
the metal will give it a fantastic reverb sound and the singer will race to finish giving their all because it smells so awful.

I'd say that's basically correct. Record vocals dry. Double it by copying it to another track slightly delayed to "thicken" it. Then, add reverb and other effects as desired.
