Dear all,

As you probably know, the database server that is used to support this forum isn't the best. We have many forum hickups by a malfunctioning database server.

The hosting company tried to repair it in early June, which failed.

They are again going to try to upgrade the database server: as of Wednesday, August 2nd 23:00 GMT (which is 7 in the evening for New York) the database will be set to either read-only (you can read but you can't post) or taken completely off-line. The hosting company said it will take about two hours, but having an idea what they are going to have to go through the board will probably be off-line for a couple hours more.

I hope the problems we know will be in the past.

Your hard-working administrator (duh... don't believe it),

Robbie

Thanks for the update, Robbie. This morning I finally got some of those critical error messages that so many have reported running into in the past. Hope they can take care of it.

BUMP!

For the Europeans, that will be in the very early thursday morning (you're probably sleeping through the whole process).

For the Americansm that will be on wednesday evening.

I sincerely hope problems will be solved.

Literal translation: All problems have to be gone after august 3rd.

We'll see if they live up to that promise. Keep you posted.

I find more than one minute per day intolerable, it's been much more than that, especially in the last couple of days.

We'll see what happens after tomorrow evening.

Another, let's say, 22 hours and I'll shut her down. I will get a message when they're done so I can reopen the site.

I'll make a full backup just before.

I don't mean to jinx anything, but it does seem faster. Too, most of the problems I saw were in the evening--like last night again. We'll keep an eye out.
