Broke out the new Rode NT1A for its first job recording an auto harp. I'm glad finally have a decent mike. The harp is sitting in it's sweet spot which is very noticeable.

Set up noise gate to kill the bar clunks and off I went putting some fluff tracks on Don's tribute song. He would have been proud of me. Two takes.
The NT1 is a great mic.

I have been keeping my eyes out for a deal on an autoharp but nothing in my price range.

It is good to see peoples faces buried deep in their gear and making music.

It's an autoharp manual and as everyone knows...all autoharp manuals are 200 pages long.

OK OK Bob.........I'll admit it. The manual was for the sampling porceedure on the V-Synth. I tried cheat and sample the auto harp so I could get a few chords the bars don't have.

After half a day sampling , I finally gave up and played around the 7th and dimished notes on the strings of the chord bars for the keys I needed.

The samples turned out good..........just no emotion.

Well, I know about these, called a "Zither":

But an autoharp... doesn't ring any bell .

I was there...

A "Hackbrett" is played with two hammerlike thingies, called... "Hacks". A Zither is played with funny caps on yer fingers... while an autohard has those funny black an white buttons and sliders (?) down at the bottom.

I guess I'll read into the subject some more...

I noticed that as well. I thought autoharps were to be held upright against the tummy and chest, sort of like a washboard. Then I realized Geno must be playing a rare Appalachian Mountain autoharp. Too cool.

On this side of the pond a Hackbrett is called a hammered dulcimer.

The strings are tuned chromatically. The bars with the buttons have felt glued to the undersides with gaps for the strings to ring in the chord chosed and the rest are damped by the felt when the button and bar are pressed down and the instrument is strummed. It has a very pleasing ringing sound similar to a 12 string or mandolin. I can be strumed with a felt pick , hard pick and are often played with finger picks as well.
