Hello all,
I'm looking for a drummer to lay down tracks on some or all of my original material. I've gone through the exercise of looking for a local drummer with the same goals as myself....that is the problem. Most of the applicants have been either highly unqualified, looking for a steady paying gig or simply "flaked out". The folks on this forum seem to have goals that are much more aligned with mine or at least close.
Like most of you, I do this mostly for fun. I have a solid day job. I don't want to gig extensively. I don't have delusions of getting "signed" like I did when I was in my early 20's. I simply want to write, perform, record and produce music with other quality and cool musicians. If the material turns out to be incredible....I'd invest effort into peddling it to publishing houses. Make sense?
Right now I have approximately 25 original tunes, about 15 are complete, the balance are in various stages of completion. I'm providing a link to four songs, two of which were recorded with members of my old band when I first bought the G. The recording quality and mixes are admittedly not very good compared to the sounds I'm getting now (new mics, new external pre, compressor, a bit more experience from me). Some of the individual performances are not very good (really closer to scratch tracks) in fact the drumming on the two songs with live drums make me want to vomit.
For me, a song starts with a beat...everything else rides on the rhythm. Lifeless drums = lifeless song.
I'm stuck with some decent compositions that are in dire need of a "pulse".
The songs are:
Plastic- I posted this one last year. Recently remixed the original tracks. The song needs to be completely retracked ecept for the vocals and maybe the bass part. The song is dying for a Neil Peart-esque backbeat complete with self indulgent tom runs. Any takers. I played all the guitars and sang harmony vox.
Falling Into You- Recently remixed the original tracks. Again, the entire song needs to be retracked over a proper drum part. I like what the drummer was "trying" to do conceptually, but he simply couldn't technically execute what his mind was thinking. I played one of the clean guitar parts and all of the crunch parts.
Cool Breeze- Just a sketch. I'm in the process of writing lyrics. The drum machine is there to keep time only. I'm open to all forms of percussive creativity. I played everything on this one.
Marianne- I wrote this song for my mom as a tribute to her cousin who died from brain cancer 2 years ago after courageously braving some of the worst life has to offer. I played all the instruments and sang all the vocal parts. The drum machine part needs to go. Help!
Please PM me if you are interested in starting a virtual collaboration. The outstanding work of Capp, Tudan, Sleep & company has inspired me to redo this material in a proper manner.
