I gave my oldest son my favorite mic since he's doing more recording than me these days. My Audio Technica 2040. This mic it my voice, was versatile enough to mic guitars and drums... LOVED IT.

I went through a lot of mics trying to find "the one" that fit, especially since those are hard to find.

Today... I stumbled across it:

CAD Equitek E200.

It has the same basic controls, but in my opinion sounds BETTER!

Looking forward to writing and tracking with it!

I did a little research. It gets excellent ratings. The price is reasonable. Look forward to hearing it. My problem with condensers is the sound it picks up in the background. I have one but I can hear my wife downstairs talking. I need to use my closet as a sound booth.

Let's hear something soon. Gratz.

When the house is noisy, I do 2 things with this mic:
1) turn on the pad
2) change the pattern to a tighter cardiod and point the back of the mic towards the house

Both of these help cut down on the extra noise....

I'm writing now, but I'll try to do a scratch recording this weeked.

PS. i use a condenser in a room next tp where the missus watches tv. turn down the gain, face the direction the tv noise comes from, use a deflection filter in front of the Mic and a blanketed screen behind and i Dont pick up any unwanted tv noise (other than the hideous noises that i make)

Sorry. reflection filter a parabolic foam covered barrier on a Mic stand. the deflection filter is a coping mechanism i use to deal with unwanted criticism. it is primarily used to blame the gear when the music sounds bad. bacardi make good defection filters. so does Jack Daniel

It would be interesting to hear what your mic sounds like I agree.
For what it`s worth I recommend the Neumann TLM 102 mic, I got this a few months back and has a good neutral balance, Jesus I sound like the company rep :)
Enjoy your day.

I'm trying to get a picture of your set up. You say you place a reflection filter in front of the mic and screen behind.

Does this mean that the reflection filter is between the source and the mic? Or is it behind the mic and then the blanketed screen is behind that, and then a wall and then the missus watching the tellie?

I use an SE reflection filter in my studio. Very useful piece of gear.

My deflection filter is usually single malt, if liquid ... green, if not. Maximum deflection is achieved wnen both sources are administered simultaneously.

I also use a reflection filter in front in the normal way (mounted just behind the Mic). behind the vocalist i have a 3 part folding bamboo screen which i drape with a blanket. the screen panels are set at odd angles so that there are no parallel surfaces or acute angles.

The idea is that the screens compensate break up the room shape and the seven behind the singer also acts to keep outside noise away from the Mic.

It works better than i thought it would.

You should check out the new Auralex Mudguard V2.

This is the best thing that I have ever used at creating dead space in a loud room. I was able to track with the monitors on, and an acoustic guitar playing with negligible bleed over.
