Hi friends,

me and my bandmates wants to perform "That's Gonna Leave A Mark" from Randy Kohrs.
I did a long search on the web but can´t find any lyrics and my english is too bad to write it down from a recording.
Here is a link to the song

Link

Would be glad if anyone of the native english speakers can take some time and help with the lyrics!

Thank you
Andreas

Servus Andreas,

I hear:

I got a target tattoo
In the middle of my chest
She always has a bullseye
Well, more or less
She’s so hard to resist
She keeps me on my guard
Every time I’m in her cross hairs
I know that’s going to leave a mark

She’s going to love me and leave me
For certain
I know it’s going to feel better, when it stops hurting

Just like swimming in the ocean
And she’s a great white shark
Every time I’m on the menu, I know
That’s going to leave a mark

She’s going to love me and leave me
For certain
I know it’s going to feel better, when it stops hurting

She pulls her love off like a band aid
And she does it real slow
She says “you’re really going to feel this”
“your scars, are gonna show”
She’s just like a tornado
And I’m a trailer park
‘cause every time she starts blowing
I know that’s going to leave a mark
‘cause every time she starts blowing
I know that’s going to leave a mark

Americans in the south, from where blues and rock n roll originated, will tend to cut off the phrase "going to" and just sing "gonna". I put "going to" in most of the lines but the singer just shortens it to "gonna". In the same way, he tends to drop the "g" off of words like "hurting" and sings "hurtin"; "blowing" becomes "blowin", etc.

A "band aid" is a mark name for an adhesive bandage - of course, it's going to hurt when it's slowly removed! A trailer park is for something like caravans - typically damaged by tornadoes. A "bullseye" is the center ring of the concentric rings on a shooting target for arrows or guns. "Cross hairs" are the fine hairlines in a rifle scope.

You may already know all of these "Americanisms" but I thought I would throw them in for you. It's a pretty cool song. If this is the kind of music your band plays I would love to hear you guys. I don't know if I'll make it to Deutschland this spring or not, but you never know, I might show up in your pub and order a round of beers for the band.

Cheers, Randy

Servus Randy,

thank you so much for taking the time to write the lyrics down and giving me a lot of helpful explanation. My english is not good enough to write the lyrics down from this youtube-video. I played in a band with 3 american Gis, that were in the US-Airforce in the early 80s for 4 years on a base near my hometown. We had a great time and a lot of fun. But too long ago, my english gets too worse …

I read that you spent some time in the south of germany. I am living in the north west in Hameln, a town 50 Kilometers South west of Hannover. Maybe you have heard about the story oft he „Pied Piper of Hamelin“? Oh, and we have the better beer than in Bavaria!

If you will travel to this part of germany you are welcome at my home. Studio and band rehersal room is in the basement of my house and my band members are very nice older guys, that are always interested to jam with other musicians and have some good beer and a slice of cheese. Robbie and Dirk can tell you about this ;-). Oh, and when we played our last gig in 2013, we had the very famous Mr. Big Cheese from the Netherlands in the audience, needles to say that we spontaneous invited him to play the Bass for some songs and I catch up every free instrument during this time. So, be warned. This may happen to you too, if you will visit my hometown! ;-)

We love to play music like the Randy Kohrs-tune, but we are doing a lot of different music styles we like. Some music like Clapton, Eagles, CCR, Stones, a lot of Chicago Blues and Country Blues, where I often lay down the Bass and take my Dobro for sliding away.

Perfect timing BTW, band rehersal starts in 7 hours ;-).
Thank you again, Randy

Auf Wiedersehen
Andreas

This is a fun song. Exactly what you'd hear walking down Beale Street here in Memphis, but you could probably hear something just like it over in Nashville.

Doch Andreas, you're English is first-class. Idiom is always difficult though, and pronunciation is hard to determine from a lot of recordings. I pulled Hameln up on google maps and "walked" around the Altstadt with the photo feature turned on. A beautiful city, and I remember the tale of the Pied Piper very well.

Bis später, Randy

Hi Randy,

A short feedback from my smartphone.
Bandmates listened to the song 2 times with your lyrics in the hand. Then we took up our instruments, played the song the first time with a spontan harmonic vocals in the refrain. Had a smile on our face, played it once again... Song ready for the next gig :-) :-) :-)

So your work was not for the "Papierkorb"

@Rz : yeah, that is a fun song. We had more than enough fun to play this. Easy to play and a great groove...
Andreas

Andreas,

That is some hot lap steel that bloke is playing...scary.

Bok, yes...Little Feat "Framed" springs to mind, as do many of their other smirky great lyrics.

Though it is very very hard to write a good love song, a funny song is much harder. Apart from the country guys, who write a lot of good (if somewhat flippant) funny songs, the only person I can think of who wrote genuinely funny songs consistently, was the dear departed Warren Zevon.

This one, thought, is pretty good, and would get any crowd "up".
