Woke up this morning to temperatures generally unheard of here in Memphis: 10 degrees fahrenheit or -12 celsius.

Out our pantry window @ 4:30 pm yesterday, -20 (F). It was -30 this morning.

I've lived in a lot of places in the U.S. over the last 30 years. I've seen close to 0 degrees in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, N. Mexico, Texas, and yes, Arizona. I also remember a Christmas Day here in MN around 1975 when I was out in a tank top. I hear a lot about broken low temperature records. I think those people were born yesterday and forgot to look at actual extremes charts. Yep, it's cold, has been before, will be again. We like to call it Winter. It's funny, but they aren't all the same every year, never have been, never will be. I hardly remember a winter that freeze warnings don't go out for the orange plantations in Florida at one point or another. The media sure seems to have latched on to the panic button over this one, though...They must have found money in it.

...But yeah, we have lots of extra coats...What size?

While I appreciate everyone's plight of cold, this is very unseasonable for us down here. If I was living in Minesnowda, then I'd understand. But, it's supposed to hit 58 on Friday.

-12 C, that's pretty cold for Memphis!

This has been a harsh winter in Ottawa, Canada. We've had lots of snow, and lots of cold. Last week we had several days in a row with lows of -28C and highs that were maybe 4 degrees warmer at -24C.

It felt like summer when that cold snap passed, and we had highs in the low teens.

Yesterday things warmed up to about -2C. That was amazing! Then, last night .... freezing rain. Then....during the night, it warmed up to plus 5C and started raining. I woke up this morning to a small lake by my side door. A blocked storm sewer was the issue. Cleared the ice....and then the water drained. Great I thought. Then the flash freeze hit.....and all the standing water in my laneway turned to an ice rink. So....off to the hardware store to get salt, to melt some of it.

After salting and sanding the laneway, I realized I'd dropped my glasses. Luckily, I found them on the laneway before I drove over them.

Oh yea....I also had time to go get a new battery installed in my Honda....to replace the original that's 5.5 years old. The car has started all winter, thanks probably to my block-heater.....but I was pushing it, as a battery that old can die right out of the blue.

Did I mention......I'm sick of winter, LOL!

As harsh as this winter has been, it will be hard pressed to rival the winter a few years back when we almost broke long-standing records for snowfall accumulation.

I took this photo that winter in March. I had literally run out of places to put snow....and my little snowblower could barely clear the existing snowbanks. Thankfully, after I took this photo.....i don't think we had another significant snowfall.

This is another photo from that same winter......when my street was completely snowed in.

a blizzard here on the shores of Lake Huron - southern Ontario, Canada. All plows off the road. roads closed. Another day at home tomorrow I'd guess. Walked over to my friend's house as roads are clogged, so left the car at home. quite a slug through the drifts. had some antifreeze in the system for the walk home.

Outch Utah,
That looks like a strong cold winter.
Hope you are all safe and warm.

+8C this morning here. Normally we have temperatures around - 5/-10C in January here in my country.

That`s exactly how our street used to look in winter, thankfully that was in the 1970`s, and we`ve never had it like that since.
In fact it has`nt snowed at all this year, but Jan/Feb are also pretty bad months so you never know.
Stay wrapped up guy`s, it`s harder to play Gmin/diminished with frostbite.

T.

You folks have been getting hammered by storms, and lake effect snow!

My original message was from monday night. 24 hours later it was still raging, but it has thinned out a bit at the moment. Predicted to start up again before it gets better. Most snow we have had in some time, and very wide spread. We will see what tomorrow brings.
