Anybody been watching the Olympics? I've actually been enjoying them- not just because the Brit's have done well. It's a celebration of sport. I also really enjoyed the opening ceremony. It's good to see sports people without massive ego's -take note you overpaid footballers, especially the English ones who aren't even as good as they think they are.

Yeah been watching a lot of it. Always good to see the Americans grab the gold. I've seen table tennis, swimming, lifting, diving, basketball, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, and more. However, my all time favorite Olympic sport is curling.

Been an Olympics fan since I was a young grasshopper... I was lucky enough to attend Munich in '72, Montreal in '76 and Los Angeles in '84 because my father was a track and field coach and had athletes participating in those games...
It's been fantastic viewing so many different sports LIVE on line--- for years us Americans were stuck with the major network feed and we missed many fantastic prelims, qualifiers etc.

Big fun in our household!!

Enjoyed all events especially the tri-athlon, the stamina of these people never ceases to amaze me.
I agree with Fezz regarding the ego`s in football, and I`m a huge football fan (Man Utd).
One thing I would like to see is the Olympics go back to all amateur participation, seems to me that is what the Olympics is all about.

RZ the training to get yourself fit for Curling is something else- sweep the yard once a day and a game of bowls. Bok, that must have been an amazing experience. The BBC have 24 channels dedicated to the Olympics here, so you can watch anything at all- it's excellent. Everything has been sold out, and millions of people have been trying to get hold of tickets. My Brother works in London and he says the atmosphere is brilliant. Mac, that tri-athlon was something else, but the gymnasts get my vote for the toughest event- unbelievable what they do. It wasn't really amateur in the 'old' days though. If you had money you could afford to participate, the Russians put their people in the Army, the Americans went to University with excellent scholarships etc. I'm a United fan too- used to go quite a lot in the late 70's and 80's. What the Glazer's have done and are doing to the club is criminal. A much smaller percentage is going to pay off 'their' debt with this share issue than they stated. They are taking $25 million dollars each. It shows Capitalism at it's self serving worst light.
I can't believe the Games are finishing on Sunday- but I look forward to the closing ceremony.
Then we have the Paralympics, which Channel 4 will be covering, and if anyone is in any doubt about whether it will be not quite up to it, take a look at this trailer....

I'm a bit of a cynic- to say the least- and probably typically British in the way that I play things down, but something I never play down is our record in the Paralympics: 2008 2nd to China, 2004 2nd to China, 2000 2nd to Aussies, 1996 2nd to US, in medals table. All were host nation except 2004.

Anybody been watching the Paralympics? The opening ceremony was fabulous- after they eventually got the competitors into the Stadium that is! It's been excellent to watch. There has been so many brilliant performances and competitions. The interviews with the competitors have been so honest and emotional- amazing stuff. Every event was sold out, so that every competition was played to a full house from the Archery to Murderball! The noise in the Stadia has been as loud, if not louder than for the Olympics- Thursday night was amazing in the Athletics Stadium. Channel 4 have done an excellent job of screening it, it's a shame though that our largest broadcaster the BBC didn't screen it, as it would have gotten to a larger audience. I was sceptical I must admit, but have been won over by these marvelous athletes.

'The Weirwolf' superb in the wheelchair marathon. The British Paraorchestra will be playing in the Closing Ceremony this evening, but so will Coldplay! btw Bok, it is a shame that wider coverage hasn't been given to these games. Good idea to go on YouTube and have a look at the highlights
