Hi folks, I had a 40g HDD crash on me, so I wiped the original 20g that was once in my G, in order to reinstall it. So far I'm having no success. I don't know if my G is damaged or if the OS on the doc page is not linked correctly.

When I try to download the OS using AW16G OS 1.06 it seems as though it is downloading the same file as AW16PROG.BIN - AW16G firmware update. Both links download the same file name with the same size, ETC.

I tried again this morning with the "drive zeroed" again, to install the OS and here is what it said (and always says).

////AW16G OS UPDATER////
Checking HDD...
Loading OS from CDROM...

Then it says

////Update OS Version////
FIRM OS: v1.06 <----Unknown
Do you want to update?
Enter: (ENTER), Exit: (CANCEL)

I've tried to update from here and the G starts acting crazy (see other post), so I wonder if I`m using the Firmware update to install the complete OS.

I had an opportunity to get a new (used) G on Ebay, but I missed it trying to find out if this is still a functioning unit.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks, Doug.

Perhaps it's time to make a call to Yamaha tech support. I have talked to them before, albeit years ago. However, they should be able to let you know something even though they don't carry the unit anymore. Just head over to Yamaha.com and look for support. There should be a number as well as an email.

I wish I could help you out, but I don't know the answer to your situation. I hope the folks at Yamaha can help you out. There are quite a few threads on the forum re: hard-drive replacement on the G and 1600, but I'm sure you've checked those out already, and the answers you need aren't in the threads.

There's a couple of members who could probably help you out, but it's been quiet on the forum lately and they haven't been around.

Good luck, and keep us posted on what you find out.

I've emailed them. We'll wait and see what comes of it.

I AM really curious to see if it's just a coincidence that those 2 files on the doc page are accidentally linked to the same program, though. This would be an issue to anybody using the page.

I'll let you know what Yamaha says...thanks, Doug.

Let me see what went wrong with the links on the docs page.

I understood there's an OS and an application which have their own version numbers but I suspect it's a blurred memory.

I just came home from a holiday so let me unpack the cheese first. :)
