This pic explains where "quality" of mic preamps comes from... So many electrolytic capacitors in wrong place.
Can anyone recognise type of chips used here?
I vote for more pics, too.

Same section but after having replaced the "el cheapo" parts with audio rated parts.

The difference that I see is that you replaced a couple of capacitors. If there's more, I didn't see it.

Why did you do it - lowering the hiss from the internal preamps? Did it work out?

You either have a very steady hand and lots of experience or you are the Indiana Jones of recorders ! I too would like to know more about why you did it and what the difference after the mod is ?

The purpose of this project was to try lowering the noise on the inputs.
It was actually made possible thanks to those hot air smd rework stations
that has become available for a reasonable cost.
With OPA1612 operation amplifier in this position there are no noise until gain is at maximum
In the other positions I use OPA2134 except for position IC901 where I also use OPA1612.
The capacitors I use are ELNA type RFS, Nichicon type KZ and Nichicon type KW.
And yes I did a lot of practicing on a scrap board before started on the AW.

I had the pleasure to work with scandinavians (Norwegians in this case) and so far they have amazed me with their professionalism. I guess you are on the same level. I am wondering if the AW16G can be improved in similar ways although i doubt that i will find the courage to take it appart. Bravo !
