hi guys
my hard drive is freezing when i try to access the select song list, it loads up the current song ok but you cant leave that or do anything else. any suggestions?

Welcome. How many songs do you have on the drive? Sometimes when you are approaching a full hard drive, crazy things can occur. Also, have you gone into each song and done an optimize to reduce file size? Do a back up of your songs using the AW2816 backup to cd or computer. Then try reloading the one song. If that doesn't work, I'd preform a Robbie on your machine (a cheesy reformat).

Welcome to the forum, Mattch.

I'm often ridiculed for formatting my HD, but I forgive them for they don't know what they do.

However I would first unplug the machine, leave it alone for some time (like half an hour or something), plug it back in and retry.

As Ron (RZ) says, things can go crazy when there's not enough room on the HD. If you have unused projects, remove them.

Can you try to make a new song after that? I've seen my machine misbehaving because of one corrupt song.

i've got alot of songs on there, too many i guess.
re formatting would lose all of them yes? sorry to sound a bit clue less but im not so technical, only bother finding stuff out when things start going wrong ...like now.
i cant navigate to any other pages like deleting or optimizing as it freezes as it tries to call up the song list. i can only play or edit the song that comes on when i turn it on.
i was wondering if i should try and get it repaired as i dont want to lose all the material but am worried about the cost. is there any way to get to another menu without it freezing??

Do a simple backup to cd. Use the AW2816 backup (you'll see it in the manual), and once these songs are saved, you can delete them from the recorder. I don't think you have an issue with the equipment, but you may have the hard drive close to full. That causes the problems you seem to be having.

You can always reload a song in tact later on from your backup.

Matt, have you tried my suggestion about unplugging? Or trying to create a new song?

Yes, formatting would mean losing all of your projects. If there are one or two "unimportant" projects on your HD, delete those first if that is possible. Or, optimize the songs, if possible.

If that isn't possible, you should consider formatting. Obviously the projects are gone, but they're not of much use like this anyway and hopefully you made backups. Like I always do.

Hope you get things sorted out. Maybe others have suggestions that didn't come to mind.

yeh i cant get to any back up options or connect to my laptop as that starts the hd going which is when it freezes after a few seconds. any other ideas...??

Will it let you into the EDIT EXPORT screens. If so, you may be able to export some WAV files to save before you reformat.

Also, have you gone to UTILITIES and run a CHKDSK?

There are a number of simultaneous button presses you can do on bootup to go directly to specific functions but I don't know what they are. Anyone else know any combos?
