Refresh my mammory. If you are recording on the G . why do you wanna synch Sonar to it ?

The thread seems to have it all MMC, manual references, top end synths and sequencing.

Using the F0 7F 7F 06 06 F7 code on p. 207 you can start the G from sonar via the event manager, the stop sequence is on the same page. With some creativity you can use this info to start the G and a drum machine to get your drum tracks into the G on mtc. sonar's event manager also allows patch changes and all kinds of crazy stuff. Welcome to Midi Hell, remember, it's a journey. This midiot's been at it off and on for a couple of years and all I can tell you is "I'm gettin' there" I'm struggling with midiocraty.

As far as your patch/performance settings You can perform a manual dump into sonar's sysex area but sonar will not let you save it as a .syx file so you may want to think about dumping into midiox, saving as .syx and then importing into sonar. As the professor emeritus of bovine compostology I can speak with absolute authority on this issue as I can't get this sysex method to work after a couple of tries. My Juno D manually dumps pretty easily into both sonar and midiox.

As far as a midi "switchbox" I'm still living off of my parallel port MOTU midi express. Midi express it's d*mn dependable.

I'm clearly clueless....for what its worth, here's what i want to do...please excuse the incorrect terms I may use such as sync etc...

I downloaded a midi file from the net...I opened and played the file in Sonar using the Cakewalk soft synth...majority of the tracks sound OK except for the guitars...The midi file has 16+ tracks...I would like to import 8 of the tracks into separate channels in the G so I can pan the drums and add my guitar tracks...

#1- Is it possible?

#2- If so, what is the correct procedure to do this...my concern is that if I import each track individually, the start times won't line up correctly, and I prefer not to do any editing on the G if at all possible...I thought maybe I could use midi to sync up the starting times, but I have a feeling the answer is no...

Your midi Sonar tracks when converted to audio will export and line up in your Yamaha just fine. As a matter of fact they will export/import the other way too.

Like I mentioned before , it is difficult to use Sonar as a slave to the transport controls of the G in version 6. It is easy to use the G as a MMC or MTC slave from Sonar however.

I'll try to bounce the tracks to audio again...last time I never figured out why I could hear the bounced audio tracks in Sonar but when I listened to the wav files that were exported and there was no wavform to be seen or heard...maybe its a sound card problem...I've got an Audiophile Delta 192...

Were you monitoring the bounced track or the mix. If all of the tracks are soloed when the mixdown occurs a dud track will also be printed. On your Edit> Bounce to Tracks dropdown menu , the safest and easiest thing to do is select the "What you hear" preset.
