Hello everybody,

I lost an important recorded 8-tracks session several days ago : I just forgot to save my song after the take and started to playback it. I had the 'DISK BUSY' message while I was seeking and a freeze !

I started to find a way to restore my recorded data. I tried several 'restore lost and deleted files utilities' (freewares, cracks) and none worked. The best result I had was with 'VirtualLab' : I was able to see the lost .wav files (8 .wav files of 450 MB each) but not to restore them (needed to buy credits).

So I tried to code my own 'restore AW1600 lost wav files' (I'm a programmer) and it worked (for me at least) !
With the informations provided by VirtualLab (clusters indexes occupied by the wav files) I was able (by accessing raw hard drive data) to restore the wav files.

If someone is interested by such a tool or lost recorded audio data after a crash, feel free to post or to send me an email.

Recently lost a large multi file project due to a crash. I tried lots of different avenues without success. ( I'm not a programmer) I just bought another hard drive and started over. Can larger projects be retrieved?

What do you mean - from the HD or backup files?

If you mean the HD, well it is fried obviously. However if the HD malfunctions because of the electronics, you could take another HD with the same electronics and exchange it. If you mean the backup file, that should work on any machine, so also yours with a new HD.

Sometimes with hard drives, the data is still there. On occasion by slaving the bad drive to the new one, you can access the data. This is using windows pc though. not sure if this would work on the G or 1600.

Moving right along here. I got fed up with my old G and bought a aw1600 ( I want to be able to back up easily). After the first crash I talked about I backed up my new files on disk. Then my G died. Turns out it was a power supply problem. (That's probably what did in my first hard drive.) Anyhow I tried to see if backup disks from my G would load onto my new aw1600. No go. It reads them as illegal files. Is there a way around that. I'm going to fix the power supply problem on the G and see if I can retrieve the stuff that way. I have also tried using an external hard drive reader to see if I could get the stuff off the G's hard drive which I have removed. My laptop won't read that stuff either. Thanks for the info so far. Sure is good to know somebody out there gets this stuff. Oh and the most important question. I didn't get any software with my new machine, so I can't back up yet and I can't find it on the web. What am I looking for?

Congrats on the 1600. You'll enjoy the usb back up. You can do that often and save from further crashes. If you can get the power supply problem resolved and get the hard drive percolating, save all your files as a 2816 backup. That should allow you to move everything over to the 1600.

Hi!

I recently deleted all my files by accident. I have tried a couple of recovery programs but they seem to be able to recover bits of audio only??

@Jonathan: do you still have your program and, if so, would it be possible to try it?

Hi Lukas, welcome.

If you can put your drive as a slave in a windows pc you might be able to get to the files or use a checkdisk program. Not sure as to how the drive is formatted though and that may be important.
