Hi everyone!

Im new to the forum and you will here from me a lot as in trying to figure out how to deal with my aw1600.

Im not new to recording as om 42 years old and been progressing from 4 tracks to pc recording ..etc

I have a basic question : as we are kind of short on microphones at the moment,I was wondering if an AKG C2000,could do the job recording the bass drum.As is the only mike with large membrane in my possesion.(not counting THE T.BONE SCT2000).
Any feedback will be highly appreciatted.

Hi Lizardville and welcome to the forum.

I think it's not a good idea to use a condenser for a bass drum mic. The sound pressure may ruïn its membrane. However there may be other insights and/or workarounds that will let you use one.

I have used a Shure sm57 for bass drum and toms and the results were satisfactory. That also depends on your standards obviously.

hi,and thanks for the reply.
I might user a SM58 for the bass drum then. Hoping i could user ths AKG for the low tom where i hope the sound presurre will not be that high.
Im planning to use a beta sm57 for snare. sm57 for high tom ,the AKg for the floor tom.sm 58 for bass drum and a pair of stereo t-bone sc 180 for cymbals.

please i need some feedback before start messing with the aw1600.IM not expecting a "great sound" .My main concern is to capture a good take and let the drummer do the rest.

The sc180 for cymbals should work.

What do you mean by ambient (english is not my native language): overheads? I don't think I would use a condenser to mic a drum kit anyhow - the only exception being micing and recording at a considerable distance (overheads from a distance should therefore work - but use small diaphragms for that).

I think you should experiment and find out what works for you. Please make sure not to damage the sct2000!

well,engilsh is not my language either as im from spain.

when i write "ambient" i mean "room". just a distance mike to capture the sound of the room in case i can avois using digital reverb when it came down to mixing.

I think that would be OK as long as the mic isn't too close.

Experiment is the best teacher, I guess.
