Bet someone spilled soda. You may have to remove the cover and clean them.

Thanks Ron. any suggestions how to clean the faders. ? i recall somebody saying once that the faders are not like old school faders and so was wondering if there are any dos and donts.

When I had a problem years ago, I shot a wee bit of compressed air to clean them, then shot them up with some contact cleaner--- something like DeOxit... or dry lubricant---RZ50

your mileage may vary

Thanks for the advice. It was advertised as never having left the house, but when it arrived all the white buttons were yellow (exposed to the sun ?) , the faders sticky and it was full of bass/drum tracks of eagles songs.

Safe to assume it had left the house and done many outside gigs as a backing to a singer/guitarist.

Apart from a few porkies about provenace it is ok.

I plan to use it as a back up or slave for 24 track sessions that probably wont eventuate

Cannot complain as i bagged one while they still exist

Why on earth would Yamaha discontinue such a great product ?
