Rest in peace Ziggy Stardust.

What a contribution. I remember the first time i saw him on TV, with all the make-up and costume - a shocking "first". Then - Young Americans - another "first of a kind" in production and content - - - he was a trend setter and iconic leader of pop culture. Thanks David Bowie.

I ad the pleasure of seeing a Bowie concert in 1974. We missed getting tix for the Memphis show, so a bunch of us drove the 3 hours to Nashville. A memorable concert and an incredible genius.

A friend sent me a text about this. I thought it was one of those internet hoaxes. Then I put the news on. :(

Life On Mars, Modern Love, Rock and Roll Suicide (the three-minute symphony, flattop chords to the whole free world [but thankfully no Yoko] build by build, bar by bar). So many others. Didn't even know he was sick. Haven't listened to his new product in years, but he gave me decades of eye and ear-opening tunes. RIP Starman.

I first started to hear about Bowie when Ziggy Stardust came out. I bought it, liked it....and then I was thrilled to find out that it was not his first record. I bought his earlier stuff soon after, which was great because now I had 3 or 4 LPs to get into.

I saw Bowie in Ottawa, when Diamond Dogs came out. Honestly, I didn't enjoy the show. I found it way to stagey, too many sets, the band was off to the side...and it didn't translate well to where I was sitting in the upper deck.

A few years later, maybe in 78 or 79....I saw him again. Now he was playing some older tunes, but also songs from Station to Station and Heroes. Adrian Belew was on guitar. Instead of a big elaborate production...it was Bowie fronting the band, with just the usual good lighting and sound one might expect. That concert was incredible, as was Bowie.

He will certainly be missed. I'm glad I got to see him live even if it took two shows for me to enjoy one!
