When questioned face to face about the quality of the Gs' preamps the technical rep at yamaha repair Toronto responded; "Oh, they are pristine."
I went with that for the first couple of years until I needed more external preamps. Certainly the quality is there. Of course many external pre's do sound better. It's a balance act between producing high quality commercial recordings and really good home recording. Everyday people aren't going to hear the difference. They just want to enjoy the listen.
