Hi all,

I'm new here and wondered whether anyone can help.

I've just bought a new condenser mic and have never used the phantom power in the 16G before (that being said, I've tested it with my DI box and it is powering that fine). Whenever I try the mic it fizzes and pops horribly whenever the phantom power is switched on.

I've tried a new XLR-XLR cable and that makes no difference and I've no other way of testing the mic without the 16G as it's the only thing I have that provides phantom power.

Any ideas? Does it sound like the mic is faulty?

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes a mic will get some dampness or moisture, which will cause such probs. Doesn't take much. Put the mic on a stand and place it about 6 inches away from an old fashioned light bulb for a few minutes to get some warmth on it. If it is a Large Diaphram switchable type with dual membranes, (ie. such as a "vocal mic") turn it around and do the same to the back side. Then test it.. If this works, when not in use keep the mic in its case, with one of those little silica bags, if you have one. Also, you really shouldn't toggle the Phantom switch while the mic is wired up. A loud pop could potentially damage your monitors.

Cheers guys...followed your advice and it did the trick straight away....I'm now thinking why I spent best part of 48 hours trying to sort it out myself before coming on here. It's easy when you know how I suppose.

Anyway, you'll no doubt be hearing more from me as though I've owned a 16G for years the singer I've just broke up from was the sound engineer, I just play stuff so more daft questions for you all in the future me thinks.

thanks again.
