Hi Teddy. I hope you have a back up of your data. It is possible that the song that is loaded automatically at startup is corrupted. Try booting it several time. If it works once, delete the song and restart. If it won't i guess you will have to reload the firmware and clear the disk. You need to start the machine with a certain button pressed and you'll need the OS disk for that. If you need more info let me know ...

No, Teddy made it a global announcement, which isn't necessary.

A post is a message of which the title appears in the section list, ordered chronologically. A sticky is a post where the title will remain on top of the list, no matter its age. An announcement is a sticky that will appear on top of the list on every page, and a global announcement is an announcement that will appear in every section, even in the mod section.

I unglobalified it, so it now resides in the section "other machines".

To our new friend Teddy: welcome to the forum. Make yourself at home, ask anything you like (except for cheese and money - the cheese is all mine and money I haven't got). There's no need to sticky your message, every frequent visitor will read everything anyway.

First think I'd do in a situation like that is unplugging the machine from power and leave it like that for some time. In the end, it's a microprocessor system with periferal hardware which can behave like that when digital hardware is in an illegal state. It costs nothing, besides a little time. And sometimes, it helps.

Thanks Robbie! I'll give that a shot. I had not used the recorder in weeks, and when I last used it, all was fine, so I hope it's not a corruption problem.
Sorry if I posted incorrectly, I knew nothing of this site before yesterday. I wanted my query to reach as many folks as possible, so global was the way to go, I thought!
Ted

Bummer Teddy. It has helped me a couple of times, I hoped it would do the same for you.

I'm afraid the next step is what Dirk says. However that would mean losing your song data.

I bought this thing used and have no OS disc. It has been upgraded to version 2. It's maddening! It worked fine the last time I used it. It just seemes to be stuck!

don't panick. The following link took some searching but you can still find the os updater online.

http://download.yamaha.com/search/produ ... id=1021685

The instructions are on the same page.

I have seen this site, but, my question is this. If I cannot boot the machine, how would I download the latest version? Nothing works as it is.

Read the firmware upgrade instructions on the site. There is a special way to start the machine for loading the firmware. The first time they are loaded there is no OS either so there is always a way to do an initial program load.

On the 1600 and I'd assume the G as well, I seem to recall holding the utility key down whilst powering up ??? That tidbit (or the correct tidbit) is buried in the manual somewhere, i recall finding it one day when I needed it.

I'd assume the 4416 will, as Dirk says, have a way to accomplish what you need.

I remember vaguely that powering up while pressing a button gives the boot OS version or the application version.

Powering up while the OS disc is in the unit automatically starts installing the OS.

I could be wrong though. It's like... errr... what did I want to say? Something about, my, eh what... memory? :)
