yes bashed tatties are indeed mashed potatoes and neeps are turnips (some call them swede) . The haggis is quite spicy and the neeps are a little sweet so it cuts through the spice. If you ever get a chance to taste it do you might be surprised .

Are "Neeps" the same as "Rutabaga"? My father who was Scottish used to request a mashed turnip dish my Grandmother would make as a special holiday dish.

Turnips and rutabaga are quite similar, but not the same thing, if I'm not mistaken. Years ago I used to put diced rutabaga in my lentil soup. More often than not, I'd have to tell the cashier at the grocery store what it was so they could ring it up.

we like to put either turnips or rutabagas in our mashed potatoes.
the turnips add a little pizazz and ruties add a really nice mellow flavor.
roasting gives all three - with any combo of carrots, parsnips, garlic, fennel or purple onion - a great flavor

i love roasting root vegetables as you roast them the carbs break down releasing the sugars causing them to caramelise, beautiful with mash potatoes roast beef and a red wine jus .

usually depends upon the chef, but I go with steak...or lobster....jeez, what's the point of this...sorry.
