so i bought a johnson acoustic about 8 mos ago. never changed the strings until now.
up to this point it has played well enough, and i had hoped would play better once i changed the strings.

so i put on my 1st E string and now its so pressed against the neck and top frets. it dosent even ring an open note.

i used 12 guage d'addario phosphur bronze to replace the lighter guaged brassy colored strings that were on there before.

whats going on??
is it the top nut groove thing? do i actually have to bring it back to the mom and pop shop and have the guy that set this piece of crap up fill in the groove with a piece of a cigarette pack like he probably did to the bridge?

i'm afraid to look!

i've got brand new strings with no playability and im only onthe first string!?!

any troubleshooting tips out there!
help!

Not sure how drastic a change in string gauge you did but this often will warrant a setup by a tech.

Don't do any sdjusting anything till you get all the strings on. (I'm assumiing you took them all off at once ) Tune it a whole step down from concert pitch and see if it plays OK. If it does go ahead and tune it to concert. I suspect there not be enough neck relief but we can determine that after it's strung and tuned.

He set the truss and strung it up..

So you're now, hopefully, officially de-PO'd. 8)
