I recently purchased an Ibanez hollowbody electric guitar "on sale" for $430.00.
I really only saw one other hollowbody in the store in roughly the same price range, an Epiphone Casino. I was very disappointed in the Epiphone, which was actually about 100 bucks more, had some obvious fit and finish problems, and seemed to have less flexibility in its tone and sound, so I bought the Ibanez. Both guitars are made in China.
It is cool to look at, with top, back, sides, and pickguard made of bubinga wood. The fingerboard has a combination of mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays, with a similar two-material inlay on the tailpiece.
It seems fairly well glued together, although I did have to put in a little piece of foam where the pickguard rested against the pickup, as there was some rattling. It is a bit smaller than their standard "jazz box" which, for me, makes it a bit more comfortable to play for longer periods of time.
The neck feels fairly nice, although the ends of the frets aren't dressed or rounded off, they are just cut on a quick bevel; the remaining edges don't seem to have any sharp edges. There aren't any buzzes or problems with intonation. I was comfortable with the set-up as I got it. It does seem to have some problems staying in tune when I do any string bending, but otherwise holds its tuning.
The pickups are standard Ibanez pickups, of some generic sort, but they seem balanced, with no obvious drop-outs or peaks over the range of the strings. Again, one of the reasons I went with the Ibanez over the Epiphone was that the tone-pallet seems much more limited on the Casino.
Bottom Line: Since I bought the guitar, I've been playing guitar at least once a day; prior to buying it, I was playing guitar maybe a couple of times a week.
