Mine arrived today and first impressions were of the weight of these things. Qiite hefty for such small enclosures. They are of a acoustic suspension design with no porting. The 6.5 inch drivers are unremarkable in appearance but when driven at 50 watts /side with my Carver , wondering if one was ripped off by yet another sweet talking speaker manufacturer quickly faded from my mind. They are exceptionally clear in the midrange and will defibately show if low frequencys are lacking or not. With my normal test recordings I ran them through the mill. The most obviously thing I noticed is how they translated the mids. Mixes I just thought I knew were alive in a new way. When blended with my Event Studio Precision 8's things really sounded great.
They were designed to replace the old studio standard 5C's but since mine have blown up years ago , I am unable to directly compare them.
They do remind me of a pair of Yamaha NS-10's in that if your mix sounds good on them then it's gonna sound good everywhere.
They have a nice polished smooth finish and combo banana/biding post connectors on the rear. A nice touch is the generous isolation pad on the bottom as well as the standard 5/8-27 TPI female mic threads to mount them on a stand.
Music 123 called me to ask if there was anything I needed and they knocked 20% off list and free shipping.
They're definately worth that. If you really want to hear your mids unemcoumbered by the usual constraints of crossover circuitry , these will do a fine job for a reasonable low cost.
They are nearfields but for max headroom they recommend using 100 to a max of 200 watts to drive them. 50 a side is plenty for me.
