I was wondering if anyone here has ever used a Line 6 Variax?

What are your opinions? How do they sit in the mix, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Acoustic.

My friend Don had one. He used it primarily as a gigging instrument. I wasn't impressed with how ot played but it did sound realistic enough in live band mix. I always wanted to transplant Variax electrics into a Les Paul or something.

Parker makes a Variax - it's the Adrian Belew model.

You can purchase this guitar from Sweetwater for a meager $9,599.97.

You can get a sweet deal on basically the same guitar at Musicians Friend saving $0.97 with a smaller $9,599.00.

But... why go cheap?

I haven't played one yet, but it's on my "probably won't ever buy one but definitely would if money were no object" short list. Just for full-mix recordings. I read an interview with one of my guitar heroes, Steve Morse, and he was talking about how useful the darned thing is. I can imagine how it could really encourage easy experimentation and creativity, and just be a helluva lot of fun. The cheaper model is within grasp (what, $500 or so?), but I'd want one of the better-playing, pricier models. Ah well. Be glad to learn more from anyone who's played one.
