Sometimes gear/technology changes represent "nice to haves" rather than real performance enhancers.

Yesterday I made a very inexpensive ($10 U.S.) change to my external hard drive connection that seems to be giving me a huge payback.

I bought a 6ft eSATA connector to connect my external hard drive to my PC. I was previously using a Firewire A connector.

Tech specs say the data transfer difference is 400 mbs for Firewire A and 3 gbps for eSATA which should be 7 - 8 times faster. For many non-music functions, the difference might not matter but for loading sessions in Sonar that have 20 - 30 tracks, the speed difference is amazing. Last night I loaded a session and it was up and ready almost immediately!

This is very cool "real" performance gain for anyone who records or mixes via PC.
