I am not a piano player, but I love writing on piano because it causes me to think outside the normal progressions that you get stuck in as a guitar player.

My muse has come in the form of a really beautiful young lady that is way out of my league. So, I'm planning on doing what any musician would do - write tons of songs about her (but that's more of a side story).

This song hit me this morning and the writing went well, until I got stuck on the chord progression. The song starts on the 6 a Dm and moves to the tonic (F) that prevents me from getting back to the Dm to continue with the next verse.

Any help with figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.

You'll all be invited to the wedding.

The song is called Chance Encounter.

Thanks.

Acoustic.

I picked up my guitar - I think I'm in the key of F.

6 4 5
6 4 5
1 sus4 bM3 4
1 sus4 bM3 4

Dm A# C Dm
Dm A# C Dm
F A#sus G# A#
F A#sus G# A#

My primary problem is that it's pulling to the tonic, the 1, the F - but the whole feel is based on the 6-4-5 progression.

I wish I would have taken up music theory.

Thanks.

Acoustic.

sometimes a two beat rest is all you need to start over.

hey man,
sounds good for a ruff idea..key changes dont strike me odd at all. nice selection.
when your idea ends, my next thought is that it would start again where it started at the beginning. loop the whole thing over again..and then maybe dig somewhere else.

obviously, you may need to stretch your tempo out a little and flow the lyrics across it flawlessly, as tighten the double tracking on the vocals.
I understand this is a demo.
and it's a good idea as a song.
hope I wasnt too much of a dick 8)

I think I got it - this first part stands alone!

It's like a pre-chorus to the song. From here it can move into a more driving tune.

At least, I thnk.

Work on this song, it has potential.

Nice idea

Definitely go to some sort of heavier/more orchestral type bridge.

Should work well.
