He played all the leads behind the scenes while Frank took the credit...

Not really.... he was just Frank's guy because he had every lick in the book, and then some. In the "and then some" category, he played riffs that were really out there, but obviously to Frank's liking, and he, of course, was a technical monster...

Dear old Frank. The world became a much less interesting place when he died... :(

Spot on Bok. I've read a lot about Mike and how he got in Frank's band for what would be his last tour. Mike grew up as a pianist. Someone lent Mike a Zappa album and he learned guitar from it. He had it note for note. One day, while still living in San Diego, he read something in a trade paper where Zappa was auditioning for guitarists. Mike called the number and Frank answered. told him to get up to LA. Frank threw every obscure song at Mike and he nailed them all, thus getting the job.

Here's what we mean by Zappa's stunt guitarist.

Yeah it is. He's become a Taylor guy so he plays a variety of those as well.

Loved the burritos from the minute I saw them on gimme shelter. Pre~punk, they showed me that sloppy playing can actually sound good. Inspirational stuff for many. GPS voice is of course the star. After him 2ND place goes to Richard Manuel ...Dylan/Sinatra tie for 3Rd

Its the fuzz tone pedal steel from Sneaky Pete that really does it for me!

Its a bit sad, but the steel player in my band met him at a gig a couple of years ago, and said he was in a bit of a bad way.Needed help tuning his steel!

This is a concert I found not too long ago of early Chicago. It is from the summer of 1970 shortly after the release of their 2nd album. They were white hot during this period and Terry Kath was a total monster. It's 1 1/2 hours long and the camera work is kinda shaky but if nothing else check out the Make Me Smile suite beginning at about 1:10:00.

I was listening to our member Oscar today. If you have not had the change to listen to "lucky hand" you should. It's a very good song in my book.

Care for a repost Oscar ?

Gee, Thanks T. What version is your favourite ? I think it still has much room for improvement. I'm starting to feel that short licks are the way to go. I should write the notes down in stead of soloing away and playing too much.

May i'll redo it once more.

I really prefer V2 over V1, and I had`nt noticed there was a V3 so I will download that and have a listen.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
