We had our second practice yesterday. The progress from the first one was notable.

Gary - our bass player only sported that mohawk look for about two weeks. It came from a drunken night at his place when his parents were out of town, but didn't last long once they got home.

Well, the show is in a few days, and we're good and ready. Should be loads of fun. A little story in the paper:

http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/flint/index.ssf/2010/12/reunion_concert_to_honor_flint.html

We are also going to be playing a second show in late January before we fade off into the distance again - opening for punk/thrash metal pioneers DRI. 8)

Good luck - Hope all goes well. If it doesn't always go according to plan - just look at each other and grin - and when things do go well - look at each other and grin. Have a blast!!!

Oops, forgot to check back in.

The show went quite well, and we got a great response. High energy, a number of sloppy bits that probably nobody but us noticed, and one or two major gaffes...about as expected.

Several old fans said it was the best we'd ever sounded. Nice to hear, as we didn't want to do a half-baked job. Keep in mind, of course, that we're talking raw punk rock here. :D

I had two or three people tell me that they didn't get to see us the first time around, and had waited more than twenty years for this. A couple other people told me we were the reason they got into the music scene in the first place. Kind of strange hearing those sorts of things, as to me it was just a fun punk band I was in years ago. I'd always heard that we were pretty influential back then (in a "big fish in a very small pond" sort of way  ), but having so many people talk my ear off about how important we were to them, etc. was pretty surreal.

Probably the coolest thing about it is that my older brother took up the bass after a 27 year hiatus to fill in for our original bass player. I've been bugging him to get back into music for years with no success, but he's having a blast and wants to continue on some level. Seems the seeds of a new collberation have been sown. 8)

I have some pictures I'll post soon when I get the time. I understand there's some video clips out there on Facebook, but I'm not on Facebook and haven't seen them. I'll try to track down some links for those.

Hi John,

sounds like you had a lot of fun. Must be a fantastic feeling if people remember you after so long years and you can be glad to have so much influence to other people with making music. Would be glad to see some vids and fotos!

So, after this succesful gig you have to plan a tour and dont forget to put europe in your road map. So many fans of yours in netherland, belgium, england, germany ... .

Andreas

Johnny, that's awesome.

How cool to relive the glory days. I'd love to play at some of the old Jersey shore clubs we gigged back in the day but alas....both myself and our drummer Rayzor live in Texas over 1,700 miles away ! :( Our keyboard player is now an ENT surgeon in Glendale Arizona and I have no idea where our guitarist/bassist lives these days.

Take it all in and enjoy every second.

Gary

Been having a blast, Gary. I feel for you with the distance thing. The other three guys all live in the Flint area, and I'm only an hour drive away. It's been a very laid back vibe, and I suspect/hope that we'll continue making music together on some level - more likely writing new stuff and just seeing what happens as opposed to this "reunion" thing. We'll see. At any rate, I've been seeing a lot more of my dad lately as I stop in to see him after every practice. 8)

Andreas - a European tour would be a bit tricky, given the fan base is probably pretty thin. If my fading memory serves me, when we were selling our album mail order ('87/'88...before the days of the internet), we sold four albums in Europe...one to Germany ( 8) ), one to Italy, and two to England. That combined with the one I mailed to the Big Cheese in the Netherlands a couple of years back makes five potential fans. Hardly the stuff a successful trip over the pond would be made of. :D

Anyway, pics as proimised. That's me in the middle out front, my older brother on bass (he turns 50 today - happy birthday, bro), younger brother sporting the Les Paul on the left, and Jeff on drums. Yeah, we still have the banner from the old days.

A couple of me sans guitar - probably the biggest change (aside from replacement bass player) is that in the old days I only played guitar on a handful of songs. In the new incarnation, I added second guitar on most stuff. It made it more powerful (I tended to play palm-muted metal style to compliment my brother's punk power chording), as well as making it more fun for me. The handful of tunes we did with only one guitar were our nod to the past.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. :D

Look like you had a blast!! Thanks for sharing.

Wish I was there. And not because of the cheese (well not in the first place that is).

"Daddy, why were you jumping around so much? ...are you ok?"

I still get that to some degree...

BIG FUN JM!

Thanks for the pics. Looks like you guys had some fun. Good for the soul. Connecting with your dad on rehearsal nights is good too.
