IMHO, pete and roger started out a little slow and gained momentum as the set went on...liked some of the little Live at Leeds type licks...

My 10 year old daughter said, "the songs were good, but they sure can't sing...and they're grandpas age"... :?

I swear that was Dana Carvey on drums...

I totally agree. The singing did get better, but perhaps they should hang up those vocal chords.

I believe that was Ringo Star's son on the drums.

I watched it last night, and that was the part that struck me the most. I found it odd they didn't show Daltrey at that point. I even rewound and watched again. Seemed even stranger the second time around. :?

I thought it was a decent show, but all I could hear on my TV speakers were vocals, Townshend's guitar, and a bit of drums. I found it refreshing that it was on the raw side, but would've preferred to hear a bit of "My Generation" instead of "Who Are You?"

One of the things that made the classic Who so vibrant, exciting and just plain rock and roll was the feeling that they were always riding so close to the edge of chaos, and at any given moment things could fly off the rail and just come apart at the seems (which happened now and then). It was a bit like watching a bull rider get on a bull that he wasn't quite up to, and managing to stay on top of the beast for a pretty good ride. Anyway, that element has been missing since Moonie passed on. Who shows these days seem a strange mix of Daltrey and Townshend riding that bull, but with a solid and predictable rhythm section underneath them. Just kind of odd to me, but my hat's off to them for pushing on.

but i thought the stage show was one of the best i've seen.

Yeah, I was never a big fan either - hung around people who were though, so I got my dose. I was always more drawn to their reckless abandon than their music. The lights were cool - much nicer than the Super Bowl standard gang of "adoring" fans surrounding the stage and acting like they're loving it.

I loved The Who back in the day and the songs still hold up well but alot of the old excitement was provided by Moonie going nuts and The Ox holding it all together.

I saw the Who in concert twice in the late 60's (68 & 69 ). Unbelievable live, and it was hard to take your eyes of Keith Moon. He was something else in concert. But, it wasn't all Keith. Roger had that thing he did with the mic, where he would swing it way out over the audience's heads....and then snap it back. That was cool! And Pete......well, Pete was always in the air. When his feet did touch the ground, he'd launch into his windmill action.

John was always cool on bass....but he just kind of stood there.

As a kid, I was inspired by those Who concerts to work on my guitar playing.

I thought one of the best things Townsend left for later rock 'n roll generations was the use of synths along side of guitar oriented rock...
