Hi everyone,

I'm from Portugal and am waiting for a AW2400. I have a Tascam DP32, which has excellent recording sound, but lacks the full mixing options the AW has.
I wonder if you could help me on this:
I read on the user manual that you need to connect the AW to your active monitor speakers with Balanced Cables...Ok.

I use these cables: http://www.thomann.de/pt/planet_waves_pwg10.htm

If the above cable isn't suitable, can you recommend a 1/4" balanced cable to connect the AW outputs to my active speakers (Yamaha HS-50) ?

Thank you.
Eduardo

Hi Eduardo and welcome to the forum.

I think this one will be suitable for you: http://www.thomann.de/pt/planet_waves_pwgs10_stereoklinkenkabel_3m.htm.

I hope a more experience techie will come along and make sure I'm not selling nonsense :)

So, what kind of music do you make?

Balanced or unbalanced won't make a difference over a short run, I've been told. I myself use a 1/4 " to female xlr >>> my active monitors.

Robbie:
My music is sometimes on the New Age side (relaxing / nostalgic), and sometimes on the melodic Trance / electronic side. These are almost opposite styles I know, but that's the way it is! O:)

Byron:
Thank you for your answer. But in case I want to use balanced cables, can you recommend one ?

Not really able to recommennd. I asked the same question I think when i first joined this site. Was told not to worry about it, so i didn't and still don't.

Here is a link that explains it very well.

From what I can gather, on short runs there shouldn't be a noticeable difference between balanced and unbalanced. But I always like to play it safe when I can. Being in Portugal, this may not help you much, but I found a vendor on ebay here in the US that makes outstanding cables at very reasonable prices.

As mentioned, short runs really won't cause a difference with either choice. As for brands, I don't think it matters. I buy my cables from ebay. I look for reputable dealers who sell those type products, check the feedback and pull the trigger.

Thank you very much everyone!

You've most helpful. Haven't received the AW2400 yet. It was a real strugle to find one!
Almost burnt my head on google searches...
But I already have a set of Yamaha monitors (HS-50), a Yamaha sequencer (QY-700), a Motif XS6 and a Yamaha Cygnus X 125 scooter! And when I was young I had a Yamaha DT-50 bike!!!
Not really a yamaha guy, but almost!

Hope to learn from you on the AW2400.
Thank you.

I can relate to that. I love many kinds of music, from classical to any kind of metal. And anything in between.

I don't use 50% of everything the 2400 can do. I love the auto faders, the pinch ins, of course the 24 tracks, 4 fx, and so much more that I cantvthink about at this moment. You'll enjoy the ride.

Coming from the Tascam DP32 (which is very simple to work with, but limited while mixing), I guess it will be quite different. Don't you think ?

As has been said short runs are ok, but for the difference in price I would just get balanced cables.
A reputable Ebay dealer is the way to go, don`t be tempted by dirt cheap ones from the far east, my mate has and it lasted a week. :)
Good luck.
