Looking at the plots. These seem like an inexpensive overhead possibility. Looks like they have pretty good rear rejection and a natural rolloff on the bottom with an additional roll off and attenuating switch. Certainly couldn't get mad at a wild drummer for sticking one of these.



Cheap enough for overheads I got a pair commin.

It's exactly what I had over the drums for about 2 years...until one of them died. Now, I'm using a matched pair of Beyerdynamic MC530s. I bought them prior to recording a grand piano to have a matched XY pair just behind the mechanics...they were outstanding there. Then, when one of the Behringers started makin' cracklin' noises, I put these over the drums. Really good there as well.

I'm sorry...they were the C-5's. After I said it, I thought about it and had to go down to the live room. I have the other good one on the hi-hat.

That's an insanely nice price... can't go wrong with those.

But the big question is... how do you read one of those diagrams MSG?

On the round chart that reads polar pattern. The outline shows the shape (heart , round , figure of of the area measured. O degrees is directly in front , 180 is behind you as you address the mic face on. 270 and 90 of course are left and right. If a frequency is not specified , it is usually assumed to be 1K htz.

The lower chart shows the frequencys that the mic pics up.Example , This mic picks up less at 50htz. than it does at 1K htz. Notice at 2K it picks up a little more until it drops off again at 10K where the response is dead flat.
Ideally (never happens) a perfect microphone would have a straight line at zero. With "idea" mics , what you hear would be what you get. Any excursions above or below the zero line show the mic's "coloring" of the signal.

In the middle is drop in dB. You will notice that as you go around to the tail of the microphone (180') you pick up very little sound.

I have been using the C2's for the toppy stuff in my live percussion rig (chimes, cymbols, triangles, caxixis, maraccas, other shakers, goat toenails, etc.). I love their small size; they are next to invisible on stage, and I really couldn't be happier with the job they've done. If the price gets any lower, I'll buy a dozen!

I use them too for overheads on drums. Their frequency characteristics are quite different from the rest of the mics that I used for the drums (shure 57&58), which gives extra options in mixing.
