When connecting an external preamp to the 16G via the 1/4 ' inputs, does it matter if the cables/cords are stereo or mono? I know that normally one would use a mono cable, but would a stereo cable change the sound in any way? I've got some really nice stereo snakes that I would like to use instead of buying more mono cables...I'm not trying to improve the sound, I just don't want to degrade it...seems to me that it shouldn't be a problem or have any audible effect considering the cable run is about 2 feet total...

are they Y cables or male/female stereo? if the latter, wouldn't that make them balanced? if the former, you'd obviously lose half.

Is the output of the preamp balanced or unbalanced? The G input is balanced, where stereo cables are the cable to use. If preamp is unbalanced, and you use a stereo cable, then I think you'll get only half the signal (could be wrong). Manual says unbalanced devices can be used on the 1/4" inputs (page 21) with a mono cable. Either way is safe to try with the stereo cable. There's definitely not any audio quality issue here.

Hi Reverend Bok,

If you are using stero cables, this will be no problem.

Good if input and output are balanced ones, so you got an balanced signal to the input. If input or output are unbalanced you always get the unbalanced signal like using an "normal" mono cable. So, take what you have ...

Rev, your preamp manual should tell you which cables to use. My preamp says to use TRS cables & so that is what I use.
