Quick quesiton lads

Just got delivery of an SPL Goldmike preamp. Tried a few preamps at the local store and for the money this sounded miles ahead of anything close.

Have messed around a bit today but going into the studio on tuesday for 12 hours to re-record the vocal tracks on our album using it and want your advice..

Should I dial any input volume on the AW1600 input channel or should I leave it at 0 (7 oclock)?

Rock n roll

Oh and also - what does ground lift do? I get that it's there to remove any hum but if you can turn it on or off does that mean you shouldnt be using it (i.e - it removes hum but also reduces quality and therefore only use it if your getting hum from other gear)?

Cheers!!!

With the good output gain numbers it has , I would start with the recorder's pre gain knob set at zero. Certainly shouldn't need to set it above 3 or so.

Try to avoid using the ground lift unless absolutely necessary. In certain cases it can reduce noise that is generally caused by other things. Ground busses are a better (and safer) alternative to a ground lift.
