guys, be patient with my ignorance, please, as i'm a long time acoustic instrument player/recorder. i have a kurzweil rg200 digital piano with midi capability. i use it to midi my drum machine and with an old korg synth. but, is it possible for me to put synth sounds onto a laptop and then play them with my rg200 keyboard?

yes you certainly can. To get the kurzweil to play the korg just plug the midi out from the fingered keyboard to the midi in of the "slave" . Make sure the midi channels are set the same on everything. Turn off the program change parameter. Be sure to leave the control change on so the korg will respond to the kurzweil velocity , aftertouch , wheels etc on the kurzweil

To play synth sounds from your computer , you will need a USB midi interface between the controller keyboard and the computer. As far as software sounds, they come in two flavours. VST or host program varietys. Most all VST's have a stand alone capability that responds to controller commands. Most all host programs like Sonar or Cubase come with some sort of sequencer and soft synths that allow computer instrument patches to be played within the host program. Host programs can also play VST's as well,

Have fun,
MSG
