Music sequencing
Controlling any outboard effect unit I have with midi ins.(with my Behringer FCB-1010)
Controlling all of my rack synths from any of my keyboards.
Changing patches , volume control and controlling effects in my Fender Cyber-Twin (using the Fender cyber foot controller)
Controlling the Hammond 2010 Leslie (rotor speeds synched to tempo)
Making custom arppagios for the motif.
Recording 16 track hand played sequences of performances and songs on either the Motif ES or the Triton.
Linking the 4416 to the Motif (transport control)
Connecting the Motif and Triton keyboard manuals and midi bass pedals (all on separate midi channels) to control the Hammond HM-1
To update , archive and upload new patches in all the rack synths.
To connect my notebook computer to my synths.
To score the music I have played.
To have one instrument control another.
I could go on and on............

What I (am going to) use MIDI for.

Connect my software control surfaces to my Behringer EQ and 2 DSP units.
To set the Aux Send levels on the G
To change the banks, tracks and parameters of my lightning melted PSR5700.

Control basic transport ont he G
To play the Juno, which I am rather inept at
Patch changes
Volume changes
Mental mutilation, learning to swear in new and creative ways.

With all this talk of the unyielding realtime beat count...would it be possible to use an expression pedal to control tempo?

An expression pedal could easily be programmed to control tempo. Make the up stop the beginning tempo and the down stop the second tempo.

Even a midi on/off switch could be used in the same manner. but..........if you just assign the physical controller to tempo , then the full up would be a very low value and full down would be midi's max tempo (256 ?) one would have to be pretty accurate on the pedal to set tempo "on the fly" so this is why I would do it as described above.

I use the technology to control tempo, randomise melodies, sync time based FX to tempo - delays and the like.

I use it to play NI's peerless Komplete suite. To arrange songs visually in Cubase and to tie everything together as working tunes.

Best of all - I use MIDI to *humanise* elements of songs. Anyone else here using tylus RMX or BFD?

I suppose what I am looking for is to assign a tempo range, say 75-120bpm and be able to have more gradual tempo changes. The ideal situation is to have some sort of logarithm protocol to avoid giving it too much gas.
