that's all well and good i suppose, but if i don't like it - i don't like it.
no matter how clever the chord structure etal.
i'm only going to give a deeper listen if i like it.
see - lots of different ways to hear music...

One beauty amongst a million of listening to music is how different it can sound and feel dependant on where you listen, your mood, the volume, company and so on.

Lou Reeds Berlin can either be entirely uplifting or a dark presence listened to as a whole or, taken in parts, a marvel of skilfully understated musicianship.

It changes every single time. Although The Undertones 'Teenage Kicks' is always an energy laden wee bundle of joy :D

Ah, but therein lies part of the joy. Yes, a clever chord structure et al can only take me so far also.

But, my initial reaction might be to not like something, to simply reject it; however, upon further reflection, a more active effort to understand it, I discover songs that enrich my life. For sure, my initial reaction is sometimes born out, even with further study, but sometimes it is very short-sighted of me, and I am glad that I've had a second chance. For me, an example would be Crowded House. Initially, I didn't hear much there, was disappointed, and did not understand the critical raves. But the more I listened, the more I learned, and they are now one of my favorite groups.

Elvis Costello tells of being mystified by the appeal of the Clash, so he shut himself up in his bedroom with their first album and repeatedly listened to it until he thought he finally "got it" and wrote "Watching the Detectives" as a result.

Sometimes, the work involved is worth the effort; sometimes, it isn't.

loved crowded house from the beginning becuase they employ everything i love about adult(ish) pop music.
the only music that has snuck up on me like that lately is some of the modern country stuff.
i'd never listen to any of it were it not for my wife.
i'd rather listen to that than the same foo fudgers|nervwahwah|breaking buttholes| or led dumplin|ozzie wozzie| stuff over and over.

loved the clash right off too.
i see your point, of course.
i like to listen to what o like to hear, that's all.
there are some things that i haven't liked right off that i get later - sometimes much later. i hated heavy rock during the late sixties and 70s (except for maybe cream). i thought it was the most idiotic sh!t i ever heard. turns out i was right, but turns out idiotic is a *good thing*. i just couldn't dig it then.
then there's other stuff i liked right off and later came to loath. the eagles for one.
i think i've heard enough different stuff to appreciate quirky, odd, new, revolutionary, funky, pretty, genius, dancable, or whatever it is that defines my taste at any given listen. so i don't really go thru any sort of conscientious effort to "appreciate" stuff i don't like.
so to answer the OP - no, don't judge every recorded acoustic guitar the same way.

the thing is its all going on right this minute
time is a tikin right this second
the forces that we take for granted
have been observed and expressed in many a mindful way
enjoy some ice cream and be joe strummer
have a beer and be your mother
make a wish and be a frog
get mad at your own school book
climb as high as you can up the mountain
don't hold anyone's hand that you can name
see youself in naked sun light
then blame god for the shit your in
morality is a cup of slop
who wouldn't drink it if that's all they got
lend me a hand and i'll yank you down
my side of town - i'll be your clown
what do you wish to see that hasn't been examined
what kind of hero will firm your legs
it's you and me bro
that pound the pegs
truth is a farce
until you are the joke
yell your guts until on tears you choke
what universe - what *now* can you invoke
scriptures compiled with passionate wisdom are trashed with begging rot
why bother
why bother
time is now - is it not

did we rise blood for power
did eliminate what we held for something
