I panned the vocal to the center, but after burning to cd and listening on my home stereo, the vocal is clearly panned to the right. I checked my home stereo and it's set to the center. I've noticed this before on copied tracks, where I pan one hard left and the other hard right, at the same level, but the one on the right is louder. I'm wondering if it's related to the reverb problem I mentioned in a previous post? Or could it be a defect in the stereo track of the G? Some other hidden thing the G slipped in that I don't know about? This is a show-stopper; I can't mix if "Center" actually turns out to be "R6". Anybody seen this before?

More info on this problem since my original post:

On *all* the songs I mixed, the vocal is definitely leaning to the right, as if I panned it around R4. When I doubled rhythm acoustic guitar tracks, and pan on equally left and right, at the same levels, the right on is clearly louder.

On my home stereo, I played other cd's, and the vocal is down the middle and the volume is equal on left and right, so it's not a problem with the stereo.

I went back and listened to my dry mixes-- no reverb, EQ or dynamics, and no panning--everything panned center, and the right channel is louder.

I noticed this while mixing, but thought it was because:
a) my ears aren't equal; and/or
b) the volume knobs on the monitors aren't quite equal
So I turned up the left monitor's volume to compensate. Now I know that's not the case.

Any ideas? Anybody seen this before?

Aye Geno, my first question is going to be how does the stereo track sound on the recorder?

I don't think there's anyway to *not* center the stereo track, is there? If you go to the pan screen, the stereo track isn't an option; you can't pan it. [/b]

It sounds more balanced than on the home stereo, although slightly to the right. Like I said, I had assumed that was just the difference in levels of my ears.

Also, on the computer with iTunes, the voice sounds more or less centered, maybe slightly right, like on the G and monitors, but the acoustic guitar track on the right is definitely louder than the left, as it was on the home stereo. Whereas on the G and monitors, the acoustic guitar tracks sounded equal, left and right.

This is driving me crazy. :x

O yes it is.......Had to go fire up the old Gster.........Leesse here ..........

OK push the pan knob (the pan screen should appear) then push the stereo track button (turn it from green to orange) at the top of the screen as you turn the pan knob you can assign pan to the stereo track. The effects of the knob twistin show up at the top of the screen. The 4416 . 2816 and 2400 , depict it like you are expecting with the other pans in a common screen.

Kapish ?

Rob, push the red panning knob and then the button over the stereo fader. If you then rotate the panning knob you will see a display on the panning of the stereo track. Make sure it reads C (for center).

By Jove you're right! Turns out the stereo track was panned to R3! I have no idea how that happened, but it's fixed now. Thanks guys! The forum has come through again!

It's happened to me too. Too much frantic button pushing I suppose. I'm trying to think of a reason why anyone would ever want the panning of the stereo track anywhere else but Center. :?

Yes, I must have accidently had the stereo track selected when I was trying to pan another track. Why on earth is that feature even available? It can only cause trouble. I never would have found it if not for you guys.

Yep, I too stumbled on that one the hard way and have often wondered why on earth they would put that there. Suddenly I realize the number of times I've asked myself why Yammie didn't include an easy way to listen to mixes in mono. Hmmmmm sez I.

I never use it either , but somehow I changed it unbeknowingly once and went through a day of what I thought was midi hell trying to figure out what was going on. Then the light came on , I knew it was in the recorder as the synth's , mixer's phone out jacks all said everytjing was OK. Once I narrowed it to the recorder it only took another few hours to figure it out.

I have been a lurker around these boards for ages and I have learnt huge amounts from you; thanks.
I encountered this problem last night on 2 recently recorded tracks. I woke up at 5.00am this morning thinking "Could I have panned the stereo track?" By 5.05am I had sorted it (much to the annoyance of the wife).
I've registered to share my annoyance that they built this functionality into the damn machine in the first place and also to reinforce one of the great benefits of DijonStock, that I'm not the only idiot doing these things!
Thanks again.

Hello smiffy55 and welcome to the forum. Now that you are an official forum member, please stop lurking. Lurking is creepy.

BTW....just kidding. Feel free to lurk at will.
