I was browsing the music book section of Borders this week and came across what looks like a great book on mixing. It's called Mixing Audio by Roey Izhaki. Has over 500 pages, including an analysis of 4 different songs. It's very detailed. Mixing technique WAV files and the example songs are on a DVD with 4 GB of data. Being able to hear audio that has the techniques described is a big advantage, IMHO.

I paid full price ($50) at Borders, since I was in the "buy it now" mood. However, you can get it at 50% off at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Mixing-Audio-Concepts-Practices-Tools/dp/0240520688/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257468058&sr=1-1

Here's the author's website: http://mixingaudio.com/

Here are some buyer reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Mixing-Audio-Concepts-Practices-Tools/product-reviews/0240520688/ref=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

[Edit: Lots of the reviews mentioned poor grammar and lack of proofreading. However, one said the 2009 reprint was better. Mine (fortunately) is the 2009 version]

I hope it's as useful as it appears it will be. If you hear that "killer mix" from me later, you'll know it was. :)

Mix on,

Hi HogTime,

Looks like a book i'd like to get my hands on. Only trouble is Belgium customs. When i Order from Amazon.com there is big chance that they will double the price before it gets here. I'll have a look and see if i can find it somewhere within europe the import taxes depend on the country where it was imported. Take about a unified Europe ...

That's what i am saying Robbie. It's $24.41 on Amazon.com. I don't mind paying for transport and taxes but that is almost three times what it costs over there :!: :-"

On Amazon.co.uk it's 22.40 GBP = 24.9733 EUR. Strange thing is that when ordering books from England so far i haven't payed any import taxes. Is this a coincidence or is there a trade agreement between Britain and Europe ?

I took a look at the book on Amazon (peek inside)

I guess it's IMHO ......

I'd suggest the two other titles.
The Art of Mixing: A Visual Guide to Recording, Engineering, and Production (Artistpro) by David Gibson (Paperback - Mar 28, 2005)

The Mixing Engineer's Handbook, Second Edition by Bobby Owsinski (Paperback - May 1, 2006)

I own both
The first book gives a good look at a visual way to interpret a mix. The second book gives great information when you actually sit down to try to start mixing from industry experts.

I'll second this one. Helped get me up to speed with the highest standards in mixing today.

Had a look through a couple years ago. The visual 3D soundfield drawings give a very helpful perspective. I found it is easy to similarily visualize loud/soft, front/back, side to side, and forward or back on the soundstage.

"Mixing Audio" looks like a lot of meat and potatos for the money.
