That's one heavy MF. Heavier than the Studio, that's for sure. Still, the tone and sustain...there's no comparison. My Strat is sulking.

I'm going to need a really, really wide coffin when I leave this earth. Strat, Les Paul Standard...and the PODxt.

I've grounded my Les Paul. It's so freakin heavy or else I'm so freakin weak. Strappin' that thing on is like carrying around a load of brings on my neck. I'm really into light guitars.

That's one of the reasons I picked up my LP Special recently. It's even lighter than the Fenders.

Still... there's times when only the real deal will do and I have to bring out the old warhorse. :)

Anticipation...

Just two more weeks before the Highlander comes to visit--yeah I tend to give people names. I'm terrible with names so it helps if I name them; much easier to remember them that way. Anyway, the Highlander is Ron from Scotland who I met for the first time here at NiceStock. The Highlander is a professor of marketing at some fancy-pants business school. But like most of us, that's his day job. He's really a fine guitarist and maybe some of you have heard his work of the music we posted a while back (search through my blog and you'll find a link). Ron's quickly becoming a very good friend and it's going to be a good time. He'll be here the 3rd through the 17th with his girlfriend Deb. I've spoken to her on the phone and, not surprising I suppose, seems to be of equally fine character.

We've also extended an invitation to someone I've met right here at MySpace: Jerry Bur of, equally surprising, The Jerry Bur Group. Jerry is a Blues artist from right here in France. He writes his own material and sings the Blues in English--the mother tongue of the Blues. He's pretty good and I like his material. You should check him out--you'll find him in my list of wildly talented friends on my profile page. His wife plays the bass in their band, and we are really hoping they can make it. I think he and the Highlander will lay down some interesting jams.

Well, back to work. I have two projects going on that are demanding my attention and one of them I think is really going to be something. I'll tell you about it someday.

Burning down the house

There's a good reason I live here...it's once again a beautiful day, despite the fact I'm sitting in the control room cuttin' mixes! Nonetheless, life is good, the sun is shinin', I can hear the kids playing in the yard and there's music all over our humble little home.

Last night was a real treat. You see, here at Studio ChâteauNeuf, it's not just about music; we celebrate art in all of its myriad forms, and especially the creative performing arts, and especially especially of the young. However, I never expected the visitor we had last evening. I'm not sure what to call this performer...crazy comes to mind, but I believe you would call him a Fire Breather (Fire Eater and Dancer). So the kids found this guy in Nice and invited him over to "meet my dad". "Daddy, this guy is a Fire Breather and he'd like to perform for you". A what?? So, after dark out to the yard we go, and sho'nuff, the kid is prepared with all implements. It was quite the demonstration, big balls of fire roaring 10 meters in to the air, and quite the dance with (and I have no clue what they're called but) flaming like ninja sticks swirling through the air at blinding speed. Yup, this guy was the real McCoy all right. Of course we took a boatload of photos and video...I mean, it's not everyday a circus performer stops over for dinner now doncha know! Great stuff.

This has been on helluva summer, and promises to continue as we are only a week away from the arrival of the Highlander.

Beautiful. Impressive.

Better your yard than mine. In mine, a NiceStock lighter is more than enough! :)
