I really want to make this not only a great vacation for you all, but one that is constructive as well. There is so much to learn from one another, things to do, places to see.

At DijonStock, we had the goal of putting on a concert. For never having done anything like that, it was a great rallying point...an objective. And, after that concert, at 4am in the morning, I said to Pat, we did it; we actually did it. And then I made love to her like no man has ever loved a woman before.

Okay, too much sharing.

So, we have learned things. We watched TexasStock and we learned things as well. Year after year, we all get better at what we do.

There needs to be a balance between structure and spontaneity. To create an enviroment where great things happen on their own though, we need to block out the possibilties. In another thread here, we talked about colabs...I think that's great and I think the objective this year should be to produce something. Not that we have to do it all at once, but to lay down the basics, share files before and after, and even get those that can't attend to contibute. Well, that started me thinking even further to say that we use NiceStock as the nucleus for the 2006 CompCD. We make this one thematic...at least one other forum member in colaborartion for every tune. Not that we need to restrict it as such, but I think that we could make a real effort to make it a global production.

Alors, back to planning. In the next couple of weeks I'm going to do what a good producer does: start planning. I need you all to think real hard about what you can commit to as far as time, and what things you want to do. I'll start laying things on paper and share it with you all. Let's work together such that we look back on it in years to come and say, fuck yeah, I did that...and I've the T-shirt to prove it.

Id love to contribute whatever I can to this effort ..... I wish I could hop on a plane and get to jam with all you fine folks.

I think planning starts with knowing when everyone is there, probably hard to tell at this point.

A couple of things I'd love to do:

- Attend a photography masterclass by Anndra. There are so many questions that I have so there's a lot to learn. By all means, bring Sara as a study object :P

- Play one song "live" with a couple of others: my biggest wish is playing Love Games together with Nate on drums and Richard and David on guitar

- Being interviewed and watch other people being interviewed. I really liked the "interviews" we had at Dijon. It was broadcast live. Is there a way to repeat this?

- Collaborate with others on their project as a bass player, acoustic guitarist or singer

- Attend a drumming masterclass by Nate, I'd love to know the basics (even though it won't go any further than "knowing" and not "being able") because at this point I'm totally unaware

Nr. 1 on the list is playing Love Games. I really want to discover if I'm able to sing and play bass on the song at the same time.

David, it's probably a good idea to delegate more - you were so incredibly busy at Dijon. What comes to mind first is if someone has a wish, he organises it himself (and of course keep you posted for the planning). If there's anything I can do to help, let me know.

First of all, I think we need a schedule. Who's there from when til when? I'll be there on one of the weekends, and I'd love to meet as many of you as possible :D .

Once we've got that schedule set up, we can go into the planning real easy.

I agree on everything you said, David. Let's make this great!

Sara? I keep hearing Sara... but what about Lara :D  ?

This thread has been split. The drivel is in the "Planning falling into drivel" thread - we'd like to keep this thread clean.

Yeah, that's why I said in a couple of weeks I'd start planning to give people time to organize themselves. Some of you had indicated already, but we'll wait for travel reservations to firm up and what not.

I think those dates are pretty much what I'll take too (got a big launch at work on 13th). Probably will fly from Heathrow too, though also no flight booked yet.

Haven't thought about NiceStock at all before.

Hmm just discovered thought that from London it's only two trains to Nice and would cost around 50 quid return.

Now I'm pondering it...

DC says everyone is welcome of course, yet I still feel like I bit of an outsider not having been here long. I guess though that everyone knows each other so well because of DijonStock, right?

It was no different than at DijonStock, Tekno...no one knew anybody, and within' minutes--literally--we where partyin' together like we knew each other forever. You're more than welcome.

There's an EasyJet between London and Nice...low fares, less wear and tear. We'll provide transpo to and from the station or the airport, whichever you prefer.

For any European hardships, I have some FFMiles to cash in. After I go to Japan next month, I figure I'll have at least 6 tickets to and from anywhere in the world (I already have 150K miles with AirFrance). So far, 2 tickets are spoken for, and 2 more have been asked to be held (and I sure hope he can make it from the US Wild West...it's a real ambition to get other Americans to come over--there'll be one other American aside from ourselves, but he lives in Paris, so that doesn't count).

The more the marrier. 8)

One thing I'd like to add to the wishlist: an effects workshop by David.

I never grasped the concept of "send" and "insert" ...

I'd like to see it on the drawing board.

I'll bring the drawing board

Robbie, in fact, we could use the drawing board. I was going to buy one for DijonStock, but never got to it.

I put it on the list David. It's a whiteboard, 100 cm high 70 cm wide. I must not forget to bring markers, too.

Don't worry if you forget the markers...I can "appropriate" them from work.

Back to planning.

It looks like we are going to have a concentration of folks that first weekend for sure, with many pulling out thereafter. So, one of things I wanted to do was make some tours, but time will be short. We'll have to decide on one unfortunately to make sure we have studio time, lecture time and of course party time (though party time is not mutually exclusive of everything else, except maybe for the driver...and that would be me so we don't want a lot of cutting in on beer time).

There were at least two excursions I had in mind. One was to go down to the beaches of the Mediterrain (all day affair as it is the hight of tourist season), and the other was to go up into the mountains (there's this great village just above us called Gordon, and then up to the other side of our valley for a view that's just incredible).

So, if anyone has any preferences, now's a good time.

Oh, and some bad news. I originally was going to make NiceStock the first week in July, until I found out the kids were still in school for a part of that week. Well, I neglected to tell Heintz that I moved it out a week and he made plans for his family to go to Spain during our dates. He is (and the two gorgeous German daughter are) still coming the first week, but will be pulling out sometime Thursday the 6th. If anyone want's to come a bit early, it's no problem.

Quick, somebody hand me the smelling salts... .

Ok, somehow my post got cut off, but yeah, I guess July 7 at night until July 9th it will be for me.

As far as sightseeing goes, I'll leave the choice to you northerners. I'd be happy to either, so you guys decide  .

Peace,

Mic
