Wanted something to cut down on leakage when recording 2 people as well as help block external noise for one person. Got 2 of these 2'X4'X4" acoustic panels and hinged them together. I don't know yet if they'll help, but they look cool.

I lucked out and caught their free shipping sale around the first of the year. $120 delivered for two of them. However, free shipping now requires $500 order. I got the option with a fabric covered back (no wood), for absorption from both sides. They weigh around 15 lbs each (as shown).

Now to get out my Radio Shack sound meter and see how much they help.

Are the flipped monitors working out OK Ralph ?

I have used Fender guitar cases for the same application. I bet those work alot better.

Good idea. But as we had to use 2 fender cases I had to talk to my wife to get a telecaster case with content

Bok, I can see that nothing gets past you! This part of the year I'm in a "sticks & bricks" place vs. my RV. Nice to be able to use my studio now.

MSG, I definitely like the horizontal mounting and am going to leave it that way.

Note: I had a "senior moment" on my original post and couldn't even remember what I paid for them. Was $120 vs. the $160 I originally said. Of course, now with no free shipping it would be closer to the latter. I edited my original post for the correct price.

I ran a quick test to see how much isolation I'm getting from these panels. Put a speaker on a stool and a Radio Shack sound level meter about 3 feet away from the speaker at about the same height. Here's the dB drop I got at various frequencies when I put the panels about midway between the speaker and the sound meter. I was using the AW1600 tone generator:

100 Hz: A measly -1 dB (them bass frequencies are hard to stop)
440 Hz: -26 dB (all right, now we're talking)
1000 Hz: -8 db (hmmm, surprised it's not more like the 440)
Noise: -13 dB

Ran into something interesting. If I was standing to the side of the sound meter, with the panels up, I got a higher level reading. Sound must have been bouncing off me and down to the meter? I then always stood behind the meter to take all readings.

About half way through I got smart and put my high isolation headphones on and used them as hearing protectors. Should have done it from the start.

Plus you could take those traveling and when you needed to pee you could pull off to the side of the road and put those up and pee without cars honking at you or laughing.
