I backed up a song file on CD-R (3 of 'em, numbered). and get an error message - "CD or HD error" after about 25% is loaded from disc #1. Happens via PC and the 1600. Did this soon after I bought it, and deleted the song from the 1600. This is the first time I have ever   made a mistake in any situation in my 45 years on the planet, so I would appreciate help from you nice folks who are pros at making mistakes. Thank You, Bignoggin.

I only do single song backups anymore. The days of backing up the entire HD only to have a balky disk in the middle is not my idea of having fun. After I master a project , I do a 2816 backup for just that song. Then it's also stored in my computer HD as wav files using the fresh backup disk to feed a program called AW Extract. (It's freeware) Now I have the CD as well as the wavefiles to restore if need be.

I quit putting all my backup eggs in one basket quite a while back now.

Hey hey! Had major Backup issues until write speed was lowered to 4x. MSG has the right idea, try AWExtract, if the wavs don't come out of that you may be buggered. :)

So... I open the files on the discs with AWextract, and hope they are restored to 24 bit, or will it be 16 bit if it happens at all? Thanks for your responses, you folks are great. Bignog.

AW extract will round off the files to 16 bit .wav once extracted. The original backup file will still be in it's native format I believe.

Do I need to convert the TAR. files? Do I restore via CD-R or USB? I downloaded the extract program and it seems to have extracted the files. Thanks again, all these bits of great info. help- I might even be dangerous now.

Good deal. Aw Extract is a great program and I use it a lot. I assume you are using a 1600 which is a outside my expertise.
