How do I set things so that what is loaded into a pad will play when I hit "Play" to play an audio track? I assume there is some way to synchronize the two things together.

Thanks!

When you use the contents of the pads, it's not the contents what is used, but merely the trigger ("event").

So, make sure an event is at 0:00:00.000.

Thanks, but I'm not totally sure what you mean. Could you explain it a little more? For example, I now have the pad itself set as a trigger, not a gate. What else are you referring to?
