have tried to download the Yamaha midi driver form the Yamaha site and it wont install. says the processor is not good enough or something to that degree lol. also I have tried the disc that came with it and nothing. any tips or solutions would be very helpful. this is a great site by the way

If you want to use midi on a windows 8 machine i think your best bet is using the Din Midi in out on the 1600 and connect via a optional midi interface on the Windows 8 Machine. Roland has a good affordable one. You will be able to find a driver for that interface. I don't think Yamaha will make a Windows 8 usb Midi driver.

I will follow this with interest. the most advanced system i hook up to is vista (usually xp). I have wondered how long our machines will be able to communicate through evolving Operating Systems.

I connect to Windows 7 using usb without any problems.
Do you have the Yamaha drivers etc installed on your pc.
Are you connecting to the pc to export and import files, or are you wanting to use the Yamaha as a mixer control surface for Daw Software on your pc? both are possible.

@Byron : USB drives have a general protocol and driver built into the operating system since XP. There is no reason why Windows 8 would not connect to a USB drive. I guess the fat32 formating is still widely used.

But ! i know of an issue where 2.0 drives or older are not recognized when they are plugged in USB 3.0 ports. it is know as KB 2830154 by Microsoft. That could also be the problem.

Midi over USB works under windows 10 64-bit.
