i too exchanged the aw16g for an aw1600.
only because of the USB, which actually make the machine about twice as good.
i remember realising the disk was full on the aw16g, and had to back up- used a couple of packs of CDRs for that! at some point it won't do everything and you might want to use a free plugin VST so its worth it.

there is 24bit mode too (a/d is on 16g but not as a full mode of recording)
and two phantom supplies for each half of inputs. whoop!

I was trying to do the update but gave up a while ago, couldn't find the file or wouldn't download or something. i have an earlier model too, i'm not sure of the advantage though.
