AW1600 is declared oficially discontinued (www.yamaha.com).

Now, they only do USB mixers and stuff like that.

There's no escape. You gotta have a computer.

I hope my AW1600 will last forever...

If you want to record nothing beats the AW's. Computer latency is a real pain in the neck.

I'll be really bummed out if my AW1600 craps out before I do. No way I want to use a PC for tracking.

Maybe I ought to buy a used one now as a backup. Or at least a compatible hard drive. ???

Used AW16G's are offered up for sale at around $400 - $500 where I live in Canada. I've often thought of buying a second one, but I'd prefer to add a used AW1600 to my collection versus another 16G. However, AW1600's don't come up for sale as often as the 16G. But, if one ever does in my City....and it's priced right, I'll jump on it.

I have two for the very same reason.

I'm not going to use the PC for recording. Blasphemy I tell you.

I use the 'g' and after reading these posts I bid on a second hand 1600 on ebay, it went for £360 with £10p&p,, I thought it was a bit steep considering I can get a 'g' for under £200,, I'm still looking every day to pick up a bargin with a 1600..Maybe I have lost a bargin,,,. Never mind I pray my 'g' stays healthy,, ..JJ

Ebay has all kinds of 16g and 1600s, changing daily. 1600s from $400- $750 for like new. I got a 1600 near new for $550 2 weeks ago. With shipping/handling/ and $80 cross border duties (canada) from the USA the total was around $730 Us/Canadian (currencies are near par). If you are in the same country without paying duties that would be $650 to your door. Not bad for a like new, no scratch, and all the bits and pieces.

I'm in Ottawa, and always on the hunt for a 1600. I have a G currently.

Just saw a 1600 ( in top shape ) for sale in Stratford Ontario ( near London ) for $450 Cnd last week. It sold in days.

If it had been closer to Ottawa, I would have raced over to buy it.

If you can pony up a little more I would certainly recommend waiting for a good deal on a 2400. I'm telling you it's well worth it. I got very lucky on mine, but now that I've had it a year or so, I'd have paid more to have one in my studio.

2400's do come up for sale in Canada, but usually in the $1400 - $2000 Cnd range, which is quite a bit more than I want to spend, although I'd love to have one.

I just bought a brand new Tascam 2488 neo from musiciansfriends.com for $561 (shipping included). So far, the machine is as sweet as a cherry/peach boquet.... 24 tracks!

I am still keeping my AW1600 because it is almost as nice - just that the neo is 8 tracks nicer

There is a learning curve (like the yammy) - but I got the video and I'm up and running.

I dont know why I did it - but I am enjoying the Tascam.

I'm sure the Tascam is a gooD machine. There is a dedicated forum of users which I'm guessing you found. As long as you understand the basics I'm sure it will serve you well.

Yep i have quoted myself . Only a fool never changes his mind they say.

I have done a test with a very cheap USB audio interface from Behringer and i must say it works pretty OK. It has latency still but direct monitoring and latency compensation do a very good job. No problem recording and looping on my PC. I must say editing is a blast on a pc. But i'll keep using the G's if only to stay a legit member of this site...

Behringer has a cool software that's called egergyXT. Simple to use and cool possibilities. Even runs from a USB stick ! Only drawback it ain't completely stable yet. And that's a big drawback.
